STRUCDOR’s structural engineering group consists of our structural engineers who are combined with our civil engineering and surveying professionals, which provide extensive capabilities in the rehabilitation and replacement of existing structures and design of new steel and concrete structures. We have extensive experience in foundation design ranging from conventional spread footings to pile foundations and drilled shafts. We are committed to creative, ingenious solutions that provide our clients with the best possible design services on complex projects.
Many countries have their own structural design codes, codes of practice or technical documents which perform a similar function. It is necessary for a designer to become familiar with local requirements or recommendations in regard to correct practice.
Every structure must be designed to satisfy three basic requirements;
1. Stability to prevent overturning, sliding or buckling of the structure, or parts of it, under the action of loads;
2. Strengths to resist safely the stresses induced by the loads in the various structural members;
3. Serviceability to ensure satisfactory performance under service load conditions – which implies providing adequate stiffness to contain deflections, crack widths and vibrations within acceptable limits , and also providing permeability , durability etc.
There are two other considerations that a sensible designer ought to bear in mind, viz. economy and aesthetics.
